Project Scope | Project Management, Concept Design, Spatial Design, Visualisation

Team Effort

This project is part of a larger team project with the goal of creating a holistically designed Coffe Shop and Communal Space.
My focus with this project was on project management, UX-Design and finally the product and architectural design of the Bar Area itself.
Others focused on creating Tableware, Lighting, the Serving-Experience and Digital Elements.

Telling a Story

Design Mission

Bringing focus to the art & craft of making coffee beverages

Celebration and Communication

The Goal that I envisioned for the Bar and its Appliances was to create a welcoming space that encourages interaction between customers and baristas.

Open and Structured

The design h a s to declutter and open up the legacy bar layout providing the customer with insights to the processes while retaining the artisanal workplace.

CMF and Style

The selection of natural materials and respect for their finishing options should represent the artisanal aspect of crafting beverages.

Crafting a Concept

Crafting the UX around inclusivity.

special for a reason

Designed for All

At the core of the project are sustainability and inclusive aspects. This idea also led to the shape and design of the brewhead and portafilters, which minimized the required force and also enabled one-handed operation.

It’s in the Details

The conical shape of the portafilter stainless steel bottom, not only helps in directing the flow of the coffee, it also resembles the way espresso forms a concentric flow during extraction.

Crafting a Stage

Spatial Design

Layout

The bar are provides space for two baristi, a POS workplace while also integrating easy accessible seating.
As centerpiece of the space, the workplaces are strategically protected from traffic by furniture elements.

Visual Separation & Hierarchy

The dark, monolithic temple-esque workspaces contrasts the seating areas, providing a stage for the Baristas.
The CMF is purposefully chosen to create a hierarchy by having the materials ascending in quality to the floating smoked glass tables.
